Expansion Shelf Components

An expansion shelf increases the number of SSDs or HDDs available to the array. Each ES2-H and SF-ES2 model expansion shelf includes the chassis, two power supplies, and two I/O units on the back with cooling fans, called expanders. Like the controllers in an array, expanders are also replaced in the field. The ES2-H and SF-ES2 shelves have 3-6 SSDs for cache, and 21 HDDs for data. The ES2-AFS2 has 4-48 SSDs for cache and data.

The CSx000 series arrays can manage one ES2-AFS2 expansion shelf, or up to six ES2-H expansion shelves. An additional ES2-AFS2 expansion shelf can be added to either configuration, if it is attached directly to the array. The SF100 and SF300 arrays can manage up to two SF-ES2 expansion shelves.
