Use this procedure to replace the AC power supply units (PSUs) on your HPE Nimble Storage array with DC PSUs.

One PSU can adequately power the array while the other PSU is being replaced.

NOTE: During PSU replacement, the array will run properly while powered with AC and DC power sources at the same time.

The procedure is the same for all HPE Nimble Storage arrays.

Caution:

Before you attempt to replace a power supply:

  • Do not remove the PSU until you are ready to install the replacement
  • Never unplug or unseat both PSUs at the same time
  • Use only UL-approved power cords

  2. Remove the power cord from the PSU by pulling back on the sliding tabs on the sides of the cord and then pulling the cord out of the socket.

Carefully loosen the retention clip surrounding the cord, and remove the power cord.

  3. Gently push the release tab down, grasp the handle, and pull out the PSU.

The PSU does not slide out unless the release tab is pressed down.

  4. Insert a replacement DC PSU in A. Push in gently until you hear a click.

Do not force the power supply. If it fails to install properly, contact HPE Support.

  5. Attach the power connections to the PSU.

Screw in the two wires from your DC power source to the connections labeled + (RTN) and - (-48V).

Power is automatically restored to the PSU when the connection is made and the DC power source is turned on.

  6. After no more than two minutes, verify that the LED on the PSU is lit and appears solid green.

If the LED does not stop blinking and go solid green, check the connection to the power source. If that does not work, contact HPE Support.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for the PSU in B.
  8. Contact HPE Nimble Storage Support. They will verify that the new PSU is operating properly.
