Use this procedure to replace the DC power supply units (PSUs) on your HPE storage array or expansion shelf with AC PSUs.

One PSU can adequately power the array while the other PSU is being replaced.

NOTE: The array will run properly while powered with DC and AC power sources at the same time.

The procedure is the same for all HPE Nimble Storage arrays.

Caution:

Before you attempt to replace a power supply:

  • Do not remove the PSU until you are ready to install the replacement
  • Never unplug or unseat both PSUs at the same time
  • Use only UL-approved power cords
  1. Identify the DC PSU in A.
    Caution:
Before proceeding, verify that the DC power source is turned off at the circuit breaker.
    1. Power supply LED
  2. Remove the power cord from the PSU by pulling back on the sliding tabs on the sides of the cord and then pulling the cord out of the socket.

Unscrew the two wire connections labeled + (RTN) and - (-48V) from the PSU and pull the wires out.

  3. Gently push the release tab down, grasp the handle, and pull out the PSU.

The PSU does not slide out unless the release tab is pressed down.

    1. Release tab
    2. Handle
  4. Insert a replacement AC PSU in A. Push in gently until you hear a click.
  5. Attach the power cord and secure the retention clip.

Power is automatically restored to the PSU as soon as the cord is plugged in.

Be sure to secure the retention clip around the power cord once attached.

  6. After no more than two minutes, verify that the LED on the PSU is lit and appears solid green.

If the LED does not stop blinking and go solid green, check the connection to the power source. If that does not work, contact HPE Support.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 5 for the PSU in B.
  8. Contact HPE Nimble Storage Support. They will verify that the new PSU is operating properly.
