Drive LEDs

The following shows the drive and carrier and LED indicator lights and describes their functions.

  1. Drive operation
  2. Drive fault

Each HDD has two LEDs. The following table describes the LEDs.

Table 1. HDD Drive LEDs
LED Status

Drive fault (bottom right)

Solid red indicates that the drive has failed or been removed

Drive operation (top right)

  • Solid green indicates that the drive is online and ready
  • Blinking green twice per second indicates that the drive is being initialized
  • Blinking green five times per second indicates read/write activity on the drive

  5. Drive carrier fault

In an SSD drive carrier, there are two individual drive slots, each with two LEDs. The following table describes the drive carrier LEDs.

Table 2. SSD Drive Carrier LEDs
LED Status

Drive carrier fault (far right)

Solid red indicates that the drive carrier itself has failed. Contact Nimble Storage Support to send a replacement drive carrier. (The replacement drive carrier will come preinstalled with a new interposer and slots.)

Drive A/B fault (bottom)

Solid red indicates that a drive (A or B) has failed or been removed

Drive A/B operation (top)

  • Solid green indicates that the drive (A or B) is online and ready
  • Blinking green twice per second indicates that the drive is being initialized
  • Blinking green five times per second indicates read/write activity on the drive
