How to Tell that the Drive Carrier has Failed

It is important to be able to distinguish whether the SSD drive carrier (as a unit holding two drives), or the drive (A or B) itself has failed. (See also How to Tell that a Drive has Failed.)

First, identify the failed component (a drive or the drive carrier).

If the carrier fault LED is lit, but the drive fault LED (the red LED on drive A or B) is not lit, then the carrier has failed, and must be replaced. See Replace a Dual Flash Carrier.

If both the drive and the carrier fault LEDs are lit, try replacing the failed drive first. If the carrier fault LED persists, then replace the carrier. Contact Nimble Storage Support.
