About CHAP

Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) is an authentication method that servers use to verify the identity of remote clients. CHAP verifies the identity of the client by using a handshake when establishing the initial link and at any time afterwards. The handshake is based on the exchange of a random number known to both the client and server.

CHAP is a method of access control that you can apply when you create a volume on the storage array.

CHAP accounts are not required to establish a functional data connection between a volume on the Storage array and a Windows host. However, if a volume has CHAP authentication, you must have the correct user name and password to connect from the host to the iSCSI target volume.

See Find Volumes with CHAP Authentication and Connect to an iSCSI Target.
