Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage system components. To avoid damage to equipment from electrostatic discharge:

• Prepare an ESD work surface by placing an antistatic mat on the floor or on a table near the storage system. Attach the ground lead of the mat to an unpainted surface of the rack.
• Always use an ESD wrist strap when touching system components. Attach the grounding strap clip directly to an unpainted surface of the rack.
• Keep each component in its antistatic package until you are ready to install it.
• Avoid contact between electronic components and clothing. Even if you are wearing a wrist strap, your clothing may still retain a charge.
