Install the Square-Hole Adapter

The array and expanion self chassis require racks with square holes. The round-to-square hole adapters (4 pieces) must be installed onto the rails before installing the rails to the rack.

The rails must be attached to the chassis first, before attaching the square-hole adapter.

Cabinet rack holes are not evenly spaced. If you want to ensure that the thumbscrews align correctly, align the rack at the border of a unit. The middle rails attach to the front posts. The outer rails attach to the back posts.

To install the square-hole adapter:

  1. Open the accessory kit that came with your array or expansion shelf and verify that you have four adapter bars and eight screws.

Each adapter bar physically spans 4U, as it is designed for a 4U chassis. The adapter bar includes five square holes into which you insert the rack rail.

  2. Install each of the four adapters onto the rails.

  3. Determine the rack location into which you want to install the chassis. Count the holes in the rack to ensure that you install the adapter level.
For the chassis to sit properly in the adapter, the adapter must be positioned so that:
    • The top screw is located in the the third hole from the top of the section where the chassis goes.
    • The upper middle screw is located three holes below the top screw.
    • The lower middle screw is located six holes from the top screw.
    • The bottom screw is located nine holes from the top screw (where the bottom of the chassis goes, twelfth hole from the top of the 4U rail section).
  4. Align the upper hook of the rail at the desired location on the rack.

    2. Tabs point upward
    3. Middle rail (right)
    4. Outer rail (right)
    5. Front post
    6. Round hole adapter
    7. Back post

The center of the U-shaped adapter should be against the external rack. The tab on the square-holed side should be pointing upward. This arrangement allows access in case the rack rails must be removed.

  5. Using two screws for each adapter, attach adapters and install the four adapters into the rack.
    1. A 4U chassis covers 12 holes; insert the top hook of each rail to the middle hole in the fourth unit of the rack.
    2. When the rack rails are seated into the adapter, press each rail into the post and slide it down to lock it in position.
    3. Check that both rails are hooked in position.
