Install the Square-Hole Adapter

The Nimble shelves require racks with square holes. If your rack has round holes, use a two-rack-unit (2U) round-to-square-hole rack adapter, 4 pieces.

Cabinet rack holes are not evenly spaced. If you want to ensure that the thumbscrews align correctly, align the rack at the border of a unit.

Procedure

  1. Open the accessory kit that came with your array and verify that you have four adapter bars and eight screws.

Each adapter bar physically spans 2U, and is designed for a 3U chassis. The adapter bar includes two square holes into which you insert the rack rail. The adapters are marked A and B.
  2. Determine the rack location into which you want to install the array. Count the holes in the rack to ensure that you install the adapter level. In order for the array to sit properly in the adapter, the adapter must be positioned so that:
    • The upper screw is located four holes from the top of the section where the array or expansion shelf goes.
    • The lower screw is located eight holes from the top screw.
  3. Place the adapter in the desired location on the rack, as shown. The center of the U-shaped adapter should be against the external rack. The tab on the square-holed side should be pointing upward. This arrangement allows access in case the rack rails must be removed.
  4. Using two screws for each adapter, attach the four adapters into the rack.

  5. Install the rack rails into the rack. A 3U chassis covers nine holes; insert the rail into the two outer of the four middle holes.

When the rack rail is installed into the adapter, the rail slides down and seats lower than when it is inserted. After the array has been installed, one round hole should be visible below the array.
